'3 Houses at Pokolbin'
3 houses at Pokolbin' is the first project of egresStudio. Set on a 25 acre vineyard in the Hunter Valley, this project involves the design and construction of three tourist accommodation houses. The design of the building embraces the latest technologies and practises and incorporates recycled building materials. We aim to minimise our carbon footprint and create an environmentally sustainable building.
The Development Application phase and Construction detailing of the project has been completed, with students now concentrating on construction, sponsorship and contract administration. This stage also involves material and product selections with the help of our sponsorship partners. By obtaining product manufactures input into the design process, we are learning the most effective use of products and how best to incorporate them into our design. Throughout 2010, we are taking a break from our studies to allow full immersion in the project before returning to University in 2011 to complete our Masters Degrees.
Participation of of a broader number students from Newcastle and other Universities around Australia and New Zealand will commence now that the construction stage has begun. Students are signing up for short term work experience, assisting the egresStudio team as unskilled labourers, working alongside qualified trades people. Newcastle University is also utilising the site as a location for architectural studies by its 2nd year students.
This project is a self funded venture which relies heavily on the support of our sponsorship partners. Any profits gleaned from this venture will be used to fund local and international architectural aid projects.
